So many milestones!

Last Wednesday was Stella’s 2-month doctor appointment, which meant a bunch of shots. I fed her during the shots, which really worked wonders for her pain management. She had a little fever that night and cried a lot during that — she wanted to be held, but it hurt her because the shots were in the top of her legs. But the amazing news that day was that she is in the 97th percentile — that’s ninety seventh — for length. She is 24 inches long — that’s 4.5 inches of growth in 11 weeks. She was 74th percentile for weight — 11 pounds, fifteen and a quarter ounces — that’s 4.5 pounds in 11 weeks. A lot of “0-3 month” size clothes are rated for 8 to 12 or 12.5 pounds, so it’s not a surprise that she’s starting to grow out of those clothes. The 3-6 month size is still too big, but wearable. Later in the week, we hit the grocery store and decided to buy size 2 diapers. We use cloth diapers on her when she’s at home during the day, and disposables at the baby sitter and overnight, so we go through the disposables pretty slowly. She’s now on her third size of clothing, and her third size of diapers. Amazing.

Then on Thursday, she pet a cat. Well, really what happened was that David put her hand on the cat, the cat moved, she moved her hand, and then she put her hand back. But we’re claiming it as her first cat pat.

On Friday, she needed a bath. We put her ducks in with her, and she spent several minutes using her feet to flip and trap and move them around. We have some great video of this, but I need to do some edit and capture before I can post it. She’s getting a lot of control over her toes — she spent Saturday morning using her feet to play with my face, which was really cute.

Saturday and today she decided to teach us what it means for a baby to be fussy….especially during the afternoons. Morning and evening, she’s played happily. But during the afternoons, it’s been hard to please her — she wants to eat constantly, and be held constantly, and even that doesn’t seem to really make her happy. It seems like what she really needs is a nice nap, but she just can’t manage to fall asleep for more than a few moments. My books say that the fussiness comes with the milestones, so we’re just hanging on and waiting for things to get better.
