A Squeeze and a Smile

I put blue jeans on Stella this morning (another hand-me-down from cousin Hailey) — her first time wearing a pair of jeans. So sophisticated! That got me thinking about all the other little changes we are seeing in her. She is definitely getting more control over her hands and feet — her grips seem more intentional and less like reflex now, although she doesn’t seem to have a “I want that therefore I grab it” link yet. She straightens her legs with such force, too. She’s more responsive to our voices now, and sometimes just hearing and seeing us is enough to calm her down. We sometimes get her clothes changed without causing a meltdown (it’s the pulling over the head that she hates…I think all kids do) — instead of it being inevitable. Some days she follows a pretty regular schedule, other days she’s eating/sleeping in 10 minute cycles (that’s how I spent my Saturday….). And she smiles, oh, does she smile. Big empty-mouthed baby grins and drooly little smiles, crooked ones and symmetrical ones, short ones and long ones.
